Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s as a method of physical exercise that uses the mind to control the muscles and increase their strength, flexibility, endurance and coordination. Focus is placed on developing strong core muscles to greatly improve the efficiency and flow of all body movements. Pilates assists to develop longer, leaner muscles, relieve back pain and refresh the mind and body.

The classes will teach you the importance of proper breathing to increase oxygen circulation and execute body movements with maximum power and efficiency. You will learn simple and effective exercises that can be integrated into your daily routine.

July 17 to August 12 2011

Yoga Teacher Training

In conjunction with the Yoga Alliance

The course will last a total of 28 days and will cover the complete fundamentals of good yoga practice and teaching methods. Led by Randall O’Leary, a yogi and yoga teacher for over 18 years, the course is a fun and fascinating way to deepen one’s understanding and experience in yoga. The setting is ideal for yoga, with great healthy food, beautiful beaches and a gorgeous wooden yoga hall to practice in. One could hardly think of a better place to dive deep into the wonders of yoga.

The style of the training is Jungleyoga, a type of yoga created and refined in the jungles of Thailand by Randall. It is a dynamic and creative style which has its source in the classical yoga traditions of India, but is adapted for modern people and lifestyles. Jungleyoga is both intensive and therapeutic in its effects, for the individual learns how to deepen their own relationship with yoga, depending upon their aims, interests and needs. Much more about the style and its flavor can be learned at Jungleyoga.net

The month-long training will cover Hatha yoga in depth and breadth, including the postures (asanas), plenty of breath-work, meditation, mantra and philosophy. We will also cover aspects of anatomy, the subtle body and energy centers, bandhas and of course, how to teach and run yoga classes. The postures will be closely investigated, both from an experiential and a philosophical point of view. Breath-work will also figure prominently into the practice, as it is an integral part of Jungleyoga (and life itself!). We will also practice aspects of meditation and traditional mantras in the daily morning classes.

The course runs for 4 weeks. Each week of the training will be 6 days long with one day off on Saturday. Morning classes will meet for 3.5 hours and afternoon sessions will run about the same length. There will also be a number of evening classes as well. Mornings are mainly centered on the practice of yoga and the exploration of asanas, breath-work and meditations. Afternoons are mostly focused on the ideas behind the practice, teaching methods and the ancient and modern approaches to yoga.

The Jungleyoga Teacher Training course is a Yoga Alliance certified course (RYS 200). Completion of the course entitles the student to register as a certified yoga teacher at the 200 hour level and provides the essential education necessary to teach yoga classes both creatively and safely. Many students do not wish to become yoga teachers but simply want to deepen their experience in yoga; for these students the course is also ideal.

Many students do not wish to become yoga teachers but simply want to deepen their experience in yoga; for these students the course is also ideal.

at The Sanctuary Resort, Spa & Detox Center

July 8 to August 5………. 6 weeks

Yoga Teacher Training

In conjunction with the Yoga Alliance

The Jungleyoga Level II Immersion Workshop: Exploration and Transformation

We are excited to offer a new Jungleyoga course, the Level II. This course is designed to build upon the fundamentals which are offered in a basic, Level I training course. Upon these foundations we can then take our yoga to higher and deeper levels through an immersion in yoga practice. The Level II course will establish a more solid and comprehensive experience of yoga and a more complete understanding of the methods and philosophies behind the practices.
Our primary goal will be one of exploration of the yogic techniques and practices, so that we develop a real and genuine experience of them. Too often, the practices are only concepts in our minds, not based on actual experience. When we know something in yoga, it is because we have actually lived it and done it; in this way we gain true knowledge. This approach will lead to a greater depth of our yoga experience and help us to grow and transform. This transformation is the fundamental goal of all yoga, but it can only happen when we invest our energy and attention into the practice of it.
Another primary goal of the Level II course is the process of self-investigation and self-knowledge. Only by knowing ourselves, our habits, patterns, minds and hearts can we really implement a lasting and profound change within us. The course will help each of us to grow as individuals, in our own unique way. The course is designed to give the space and the knowledge for students to explore the yoga in the way that they need and want to explore it. Each person inevitably practices their own unique yoga, and the development of this yoga is an essential element of the Level II course.

Basic Elements of the Course
The course will focus on developing a more regular and consistent practice of yoga. By going more deeply into certain types of practices, our experiences will deepen. Thus, each day we will have a basic subject of exploration. In the asanas (postures), we will focus on developing certain types of poses or directions each day. For example, one day will focus on backbending, another on inversions, another on strength and core power, hip opening and restorative/yin/supported poses. By focusing on specific areas, we will actually make progress in our poses and hopefully be able to perform more difficult poses with greater comfort.
We will also be developing a regular pattern of breath exercises, which is called pranayama. Each week we will have a (more or less) set series of pranayama breaths, which we will repeat every day. Especially with the yoga of breathing, one must repeat the same fundamental patterns each day, of a long period of time if there is going to be any progress. Many people have never done pranayama regularly and do not know how to create a pranayama practice. The course will develop our regular pranayama practice and also help us to understand the fundamental elements of pranayama.

The third element we will work with consistently is a mantra practice. In the Level I course, we learned some of the simple and basic mantras which are used as aids to energetic development and meditation. In Level II, we will build the intensity of the mantra practice by learning some more difficult and interesting chants. The learning of mantras and their regular practice is a very powerful part of yoga and helps to develop mental clarity and concentration.
Philosophy and Concepts in the Course

The course will not be entirely about practice, however, because it is vital that we understand the ideas and philosophy behind the techniques. Many people are unclear about the overall methods of yoga and tantra; in the course we will broaden our scope and explore the philosophy of Hatha yoga, tantra, Ayurveda (Indian medicine) and the classical yoga philosophy of Patanjali.

For the exploration of Hatha yoga, we will study elements of the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, which is a classical manual of Hatha yoga practice. We will also look more deeply into the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, on which most yoga systems are based. Tantra and its methods will also be a subject of study, by this we mean the classical tantric methods and not the modern versions of tantra.
Another focus will be aspects of Ayurveda, the Indian medical system, which is very useful to the practice of yoga in that it helps us be become more balanced and healthy in our lives. Throughout all of these subjects, the course will develop our knowledge of Sanskrit words and concepts, which is critical to the comprehension of yogic concepts and practices.

Developing as a Yoga Teacher
The course is officially a ‘teacher training’, which means that it should prepare us for guiding others and teaching yoga classes. The personal work of yoga practice is the best way to prepare to teach yoga classes, but we will also look more deeply into methods of teaching. We will develop our knowledge of sequencing and building practices for teaching. This will help us to create practices which have a variety of purposes and effects, so that we can be creative and dynamic in our teaching. During the course we will practice aspects of yoga teaching on each other, which will include planning and teaching classes and sequences, using props and aids and helping students to modify poses so that they can get the most out of the practices.

The Course in General
The course will be 6 weeks of practice, with a short break after 3 weeks. It is designed to be a 500 level course, following the requirements of the Yoga Alliance. Upon completion, the student will be certified at the 500 level. This assumes that the student has completed a 200 Hour Teacher Training. Thus, the overall time-frame of the course is about 300 hours.
If one cannot complete the entire course, there is still a possibility to attend part of the course. If desired, you may attend however much of the course you can and accumulate hours towards the 500 Level certification. If there is no interest in the certification, any part of the course may be attended. It is preferable if one attends the beginning of the course and not start in the middle. Special cases will be considered if you write to Randall.
The course will meet in the Sanctuary’s beautiful Prana Hall, a spacious wooden hall nestled in the jungle.
Daily Timings
The course will meet 6 days per week, for 6 weeks total (adding a few days in the middle take the course to around 6.5 weeks). We meet in the morning for practice at 7 am and continue to about 10.30. There is a break for breakfast and another meeting around 11.30 for 2 hours. After that, we have a break for the afternoon and meet back around 5 for more practice and exploration. Some evenings we will meet for fire rituals and meditation.

Costs
The cost of the course will be only 2000 Euro if one signs up before May 15, 2012; after this date the cost will be 2200 Euro. This price includes tuition, but not food, accommodation or transportation. For more information and bookings please write to somababa@yahoo.com .
