Balady (first and second week: two half days)
Express your feminine side by learning this coquettish and laid back Egyptian dance."Balady" means dance of the peoples, it has very different moods. Balady was among others, a dance from women for women. Another mood is the initiation dance for young married couples to inspire them. We will focus on these two styles, expressing the natural beauty of feminine sexual power and joy with this dance style.
Saidi, Stick dance (first and second week: two half days: one half day men's style, one half day women's style; men and women are welcome in both workshops)
Originally only men danced this powerful fighting dance with sticks. When women danced saidi, they caricatured the machismo. A dance with humour and joy. Women show their masculine aspect while dancing their Saidi interpretation. Still showing femininity, it becomes a dance of celebrating feminine and masculine aspects together.
Sufi dance (first and second week: one half day)
This Trance dance leads to your inner voice, allowing it to move. Your breath can move you and you can move your breath, dancing your inner peace.
Practice of spinning gives a strong self contact, stabilizing the inner and outer system.
A prayer to your inner Good and Goddess.
Zar, Egyptian ritual dances (first and second week: one half day)
Zar are ancient ritual and healing dance for body and soul. People still dance Zar in Africa today. You will learn movements of these traditional ecstatic dances. Spinning, upper body- and head movement are part of this workshop. Besides that there is space for improvisation, expressing your deep feelings to liberate yourself. Inner blocks manifested in the joints and flesh are looseed while dancing this release.
Odissi in a Cross- over, Indian dance in oriental dance (first and second week: one half day)
Odissi from Orissa in South India is the most feminine dance of Indian dances.
Old sculptures indicate that women then danced more with their hips than nowadays.
Many movements were translated into the upper body. Learn and enloy a fusion of Odissy and Raks Sharki, the classical Egyptian dance. A charming, poetic and dynamic dance.
Drum solo - dance, dance with drums only (first week: one half day)
The drum solo is the summit in an oriental dance routine. It is characterised through Chimmis and strong accents of the hips. A fast and dynamic dance
Drum solo - dance fusion with South- West African dance (second week: one half day)
Oriental and South- West African dances are routed to earth. We bring these styles together: dancing the stories of living and celebrating through the dynamic from chimmis, the jumps and the pantomime derived from mimicking animals.
Veil dance (first and second week: one half day)
Fascinating pictures and flow of movement through dancing with a veil.
In this workshop, we learn techniques and tricks for dancing with one veil. Beside the technique, we learn to improvise with the special dynamic, created by the airy veil. This large, light peace of material has its own life, it won` t always fly as the dancer wants it to. This loos of control can inspire the dancer to follow the movements of the veil.
Veil dance with two veils (second week: one half day)
After practicing with one veil we advance using two. To join this workshop, it is helpful to have had some experience of dancing with one veil.
