Jungle Yoga Advanced 6 week Teacher Training

1st July to 9th August 2013

The Jungleyoga Level 2 Course

Jungleyoga is now offering the Level II Training Course (500 Level/300 hours). This course is designed to build upon the fundamentals which are offered in a basic, Level I training course. Upon these foundations we can then take our yoga to higher and deeper levels through an immersion in yoga practice. The Level II course will establish a more solid and comprehensive experience of yoga and a more complete understanding of the methods and philosophies behind the practices with an aim on personal growth and transformation.
Please see JUNGLEYOGA.NET for complete details.

Our Focus
Our primary goal will be one of exploration of the yogic techniques and practices, so that we can grow and transform ourselves. Transformation is the fundamental goal of all yoga, but it can only happen when we invest our energy and attention into the practice of it. The advantage of the 6 week workshop is that we can truly establish a regular, steady practice and make the most of our yoga experience. This exploration will take place on many levels: postures, breaths, philosophy, self-inquiry, helping others, etc.

Schedules and Costs
The Level 2 course will run for 6 weeks, 6 days per week, about 6-8 hours per day. It is a 500 Level certified course with the Yoga Alliance. In order to qualify for the 500 Level certificate, students must have completed a 200 hour course. Those who have not will quality for the 200 hour certificate upon completion of the course. The price is 2000 Euro for the full course if you have reserved your place more than one month before the course begins. After that the cost is 2150 Euro. This includes all classes but not food or accommodation.

Themes
Each day of the training, there is a theme which we develop upon. What makes this course special is that, as much as possible, we use the different types of practice to help us learn about our theme. For example, if our theme is the ‘restless mind’ and what role in plays in our lives, we look at it through the mantra practice, as well as through the breath practice and even the asana class. During the discussion class we would learn what the yoga philosophy says about the ‘restless mind’ and look into how that affects our life, feelings and behavior.
We will do this for many themes in the training. Each day will be different, but each day will build upon the theme of the days before. Thus we create a flowing, growing base of knowledge and experience so that our yoga is a real, living thing within us.

Asana
The physical practice varies in intensity day to day, but is based loosely on a soft approach to flowing vinyasa practice. Our approach is one of a gradual building of intensity. At first we make sure the basics and established so that we can build from there. Gradually the challenges increase and we can safely approach the more intense poses. These include the various arm balances, headstand variations, backbends, deep twists, etc. Of course, each student works to their own level and capacity, and only goes as deep as is appropriate for them.

Breath
We will be developing regular patterns of breath exercises. Each day in the training, we will practice the development of the breath and the energy body with both simple and challenging techniques. Our fundamental practice is based on cycles of movement which we call swara cycles. Due to their flowing nature, even those who cannot sit up on meditation posture for long can benefit from the breath practice. Students who want to work with classical pranayama will have the chance to do so as well.

Mantra
Another element we will work with consistently is a mantra practice. The learning of mantras and their regular practice is a very powerful part of yoga and helps to develop mental clarity and concentration and can be loads of fun as well. The mantra practice also leads us to our weekly fire puja (homa). In this ancient ritual, we do a fire based ritual that is based on mantra chanting.

Philosophy
The course will not be entirely about practice, however, because it is vital that we understand the ideas and philosophies behind the techniques. . In the course we will broaden our scope and explore the philosophy of Hatha yoga, Tantra, Ayurveda (Indian medicine),the yoga philosophy of Patanjali, the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Jyotish (astrology) and other subjects.
Most days we will have a lecture/discussion about topics related to yoga for 1.5-2 hours. This does not mean that it will be strictly ‘philosophy’ and book knowledge. The most important this for us is that all of our learning creates clarity within us. All of the topics discussed will be aimed at practical and direct application by students. We avoid complicated and abstract discussions. We try to study knowledge that helps us to reflect upon ourselves and which helps us to grow. Philosophy for philosophy’s sake is not our thing!

Teaching
The course is officially a ‘teacher training’, which means that it should prepare us for guiding others and teaching yoga classes. The personal work of yoga practice is the best way to prepare to teach yoga classes, but we will also look more deeply into methods of teaching. We will develop our knowledge of sequencing and building practices for teaching. This will help us to create practices which have a variety of purposes and effects, so that we can be creative and dynamic in our teaching.
