Kalari an Introduction:

In this intensive course (limited to 8 participants) you will receive an introduction to both the martial and healing art of Kalari, together with a theoretical underpinning, that brings all the knowledge together and explains why Kalari works !

Part 1: Martial Art

During the 7 days you will learn the following:

The principal Vadivu (postures) of Kalari (for lower body strengthening and stabilisation)

The Lohars (grounding exercises from which Kung fu was developed)

The first leg exercises (kicks to improve flexibility and flow)

The first ground exercises (for upper body strengthening and stabilisation)

The first prayer forms (for building flow, release and alignment)

Elements from the Siva and Sakti forms (to build power, coordination and flow)

Stick rolling (to improve proprioception and shoulder strengthening)

Part 2: Healing Art

During the 7 days you will have opportunity to do the following:

Observe clients receiving Kalari Chikitsa and Marma therapy

Learn how to perform Khizi and Dhara treatments (for muscle and joint pain)

Learn how to assess for Muscle and Joint pain

Leave the course equipped to help others with what you have learnt

Part 3: Theory

During the 7 days we will discuss the following:

History and Philosophy of Kalari

The design of the Kalari and the way of the Adyvassi (practitioner)

Anatomy of the gross body: the Neuromyofascial web (NMW)

Anatomy of the subtle body (Nadis, Chakra and Marma)

How Breathing and the Spine behave in motion

How to restore balance to the NMW through exercise and treatment

What to expect from the course?


  • The Kalari training will take place mornings and evenings, up to 2 hours per session.

  • We will be training for 6 days a week – the  day of rest is important in preventing a build up of lactic acid in the body and to allow your fascia to rehydrate.


  • Each day we will have 1.5hr practical session on Kalari treatment in which you will observe , assist and learn how to give simple treatments to yourself and others.


  • Following an introduction to Kalari and the neuromyofascial web we shall focus on the different myofascial meridians and explore how they operate within us, how they become malfunction and how we can correct them through exercise and treatment.

To Take home:

  • After completion you will receive a printed and illustrated manual about all you have covered and a internationally recognised certificate, endorsed by Kerala Kalarippayat Academy (one of the leading teaching institutions of this art form)

  • Further , you will have your own 60 minute training programme that you can repeat independently and continue to improve on your own.

  • You will be provided membership to the ‘KalariLAB Community’ Forum which will allow you to continue learning in the future, with regular updates from me and other teachers and discounts to attend future courses , including masterclasses with my Gurukkal and his most senior students.

About the Facilitator:


Adam has been practicing Kalari for over 18 years, teaching since 2006 and working as a therapist in Kalari Chikitsa since 2005. He also studied Physiotherapy at the University of London and worked in several Physiotherapy departments in the UK – treating Musculoskeletal, Respiratory and Neurological conditions. Working as a professional actor from 2003-2008 he collaborated with dancers and performers, using both Kalari exercise and treatment in their training and rehabilitation. In both his teachings and treatments he now draws on these two bodies of knowledge to provide the most holistic approach possible.
